2017: Goals and Dreams

It's finally 2017!  Hooray!  2016's reign of terror is over, and we can all move on to happier years and futures.  Not that my 2016 was all that bad.  I had a few jobs, graduated from Northern Illinois University, and celebrated my 2 year anniversary with my boyfriend.

But 2017...  it's going to be incredible.  I can just tell.  Know how I can tell?  I spent five months of 2016 searching for a new job.  I wasn't asking for much - something full-time and that paid more than minimum wage by several dollars.  Five months went by of me getting more and more hopeless and desperate.  I had been getting interviews here and there, but would either not hear back from them at all, or would be turned down.  I even made an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of it all.  I wish I was kidding.

A screenshot of the beginning of the Excel sheet.

So, yeah, needless to say, I was feeling pretty low about still not having a job.  Especially since I'm now such a "desirable candidate" because of my Bachelor's Degree.  I did and still do not feel very sought after because of a degree.  Anyway, I ended up applying to about 130 jobs just since the end of October.  Not a fun time.

But, I am happy to say I am now employed!  I have a job!  I HAVE A FREAKING JOB!  Not only do I have a job, but it's a full-time job that pays several dollars more than minimum wage!  It's exactly what I wanted.  Also, it has great benefits.  Seriously.  They will pay for me to go back to school and get a business degree if I want.  Maybe that degree is more desirable than my English degree.  But, the point it, I FINALLY HAVE A JOB!

2017 is starting off right for me.  And having this job means I can focus more time on writing and editing.  Instead of spending hours job searching, I can spend those hours editing Forever Nineteen for self-publication on Amazon.  Which is fantastic!

With that in mind, I've decided to set a few goals for myself this year.  Not New Year's Resolutions, but actual goals.

Goal 1 has already been accomplished: Get a job.
Goal 2: Read at least 50 books this year.  (I read about that many last year because of school classes, so I want to maintain it now that I'm done with school)
Goal 3: Publish Forever Nineteen on Amazon.
Goal 4: Send out queries to agents like a madwoman until I get an agent.
Goal 5: Traditional publish a book with the help of the agent I get.

All in all, pretty lofty goals.  But they can definitely be accomplished.  And I will work until they are.

So keep working on your own goals!  I'm right there with you.
