Two Truths and a Lie: Hallmark Movie Edition

NaNoWriMo is over!  I needed a few days to recover after finishing my novel (yes, I finished it!  It clocked in at about 79,000 words total, and it is complete!) and I still don't feel like I'm totally ready to get back into writing something else or editing the story itself.  But, with the holidays now upon us, I did spend a relaxing night catching up with my best friend Caitlin and watching cheesy Netflix and Hallmark Christmas movies.

While we were watching, she was telling me about this thing she heard where a guy had two Hallmark movie synopses, and then he wrote a third.  Then, he'd read all three to people and have them guess which one was fake.  Well, I thought that sounded hilarious and also like a great flex for my writing muscles.

Thus, Two Truths and a Lie: Hallmark Movie Edition was born.

So, I did it.  I sat there on the couch while we watched The Princess Switch, and I found two Hallmark movies and wrote one of my own.  And, when I had Caitlin guess which one was fake, she didn't pick the one I wrote!  I fooled her!  Which was hilarious to me.  So, I thought I'd share what I wrote for her here.  See if you can guess which one is fake!  I'll put the answer waaaaay down at the bottom for you.

Two Truths and a Lie: Hallmark Movie Edition

A King for Christmas
With Christmas approaching, small bookstore owner Aimee only has one wish: to finally have a vacation.  Her wish is granted when she wins a trip to the small European country Markovia, home to all sorts of old bookstores.  With packed bags, Aimee plans to spend her Christmas surrounded by books.  What she didn’t expect was to meet a handsome stranger in search of the same book as her.

King Nikolas had been searching for a specific copy of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol ever since his father passed suddenly last year.  While he did find the book, he also found something more.  When Aimee doesn’t recognize him as the king, he decides to spend some more time with her.  Shirking some of his royal holiday events, he instead spends the week seeing his kingdom in a different light.  But, as Aimee’s trip is to end the day after Christmas, Nikolas must decide whether or not to tell Aimee the truth and decide whether his duty to his heart outweighs his royal duties.

A Royal Christmas
As the only daughter of an expert tailor in Philadelphia, Emily is a kindhearted young woman proud of her blue-collar background.  She is a devoted seamstress at the family business and madly in love with her doting European boyfriend, Leo.  But as their first Christmas together approaches, Leo drops a bombshell on his unsuspecting girlfriend: he is actually Prince Leopold, heir to the throne of Cordinia, a small sovereign country.

Less than enthusiastic about her son’s relationship with a commoner, the prince’s mother Queen Isadora makes Emily feel anything but welcome at their grand castle, leaving Emily to feel more at home among Isadora’s staff of butlers and housemaids.  As Emily struggles to adapt to her new royal surroundings, the situation is made more difficult when a scheming Isadora invites Duchess Natasha, Leo’s ex-girlfriend, to join them for Christmas.  Attempting to stay true to herself in a world where she clearly doesn’t belong, Emily wonders if love is enough to keep her newly royal relationship from falling apart before Christmas morning.

Royal New Year’s Eve
Magazine assistant and aspiring fashion designer Caitlyn’s world is turned upside down when Prince Jeffrey and his presumed future fiancé Lady Isabelle come to town.  Isabelle hires Caitlyn to design a dress for the royal New Year’s Eve ball where Jeffrey is expected to propose, which could launch the fashion career she’s always dreamed about.

Navigating through her boss Abigail’s efforts to sabotage her, Caitlyn spends time creating a dress fit for a princess with her friend Doris and planning the ball with Jeffrey.  Caitlyn and Jeffrey begin to develop feelings for one another, but Jeffrey’s royal commitment to marry Isabelle and assume the throne stands in between them.  As the New Year’s Eve ball approaches, Jeffrey and Caitlyn must decide if they can overcome royal tradition to pursue their happily ever after.

There they are.  Do you have your guess?  Which one is fake?  Which two are real?  (Also, I took these synopses straight from the hallmark website.)
